A short overview of SCM activities around the world.
German-speaking countries
Successful seminars were held in Berlin and Vienna this spring. Participants were independent trainers, CEO’s and managers from various middle-sized companies. Other than that, introductions were given in various organizations, such as an architect’s firm, and presentations at different conferences, in Vienna and Munich. For more information, see the website for German-speaking countries.
The Netherlands
The Annual Day, in April, was a fruitful meeting. Around sixty people, from The Netherlands and abroad, discussed “leadership in a SCM-context.” Prior to this gathering, the three-day introduction to the International School for Leaders was presented for the first time in English, led by Gilles Charest, SCM trainer from Canada. About fifteen people participated.
A division of 500 people in an organization for at-home care (Thuiszorg) will adopt SCM as their mode of governance. This decision followed a successful one-year pilot. During the pilot, around hundred people worked with SCM and were trained by the Sociocratic Centre Netherlands. Evaluation showed that employees highly value the influence SCM gave them in the policy-making. Managers are happy that chronic problems, some lingering for years, are now being resolved in the cooperative environment created by SCM.
The United States
More than fifty chapters of the United Stated Green Building Council have now received training in SCM, dubbed “Dynamic Governance” by the Council. Many chapters are reporting more efficient meetings and more volunteer involvement as a result of the training. Elsewhere, workshops in Seattle, Washington; Port Townsend, Washington; Lincoln, Vermont; and a Sufi Center for Peace in Pennsylvania are leading to local sociocratic organizing (sometimes called “Dynamic Governance”).
